learning to skateboard on my own...possible or not?

I know nothing about skateboarding...i'm just doign it for fun and so i can possibly get around that way when i go off to university as i will have no car.
I'm getting a darkstar complete board.

Where do i start? any tips or what not would be appreciated =]

My feet hurt when i skateboard?

Whenever i skateboard, after i do ollies, or try shove its when i land my feet hurt pretty bad and i have to stop it feels like my feet have been shocked, can only bear it for about an hour before i have to go sit down and break. My shoes were loose so i tightened them up thinking that would help.. it kinda did but then they started hurting again, is it because im not landing my feet correctly? Should i try and be looser and not as tense, im tensed up cuz i think im gonna fall

How can I make more guy friends?

I'm 16, and I'm shy. I kinda grew up with few positive male figures, and most of the guys in my life when I was young threw me around a bit.

I am a tomboy now, I enjoy video games and skateboarding more than I like silly colored socks and nail polish. But I find it hard to make friends with guys. I'm not a complete loser or anything, and I'm not a freak. I do have friends, and I have guy friends.

I'd just like to be able to relate to guys more, to make better friends with them. Mostly because I severely dislike most girls, and I need to get more comfortable with guys anyway. I'd like to become one of those girls who can "be one of the guys". I figure that this would also help when I like certain guys, so I can be less awkward with them.

Well my friend and I are trying to make a list of things we want to do befor we die(not really more like things to do befor 2012). I'm 16 she's 17. So far we have


~Spend a day eating junk food and not feel guilty.
~Give your mom adozen roses in a randome day.
~Take a roud trip
~Drive in a car we will never afford.
~Drive in rout 66
~Spend a whole day with your dad.
~Eat something you can't even say.
~Sing really loud in the middle of the mall.
~buy 200 balloons and let them go all together.
~Go to a drive in movie theater.
~Get wet in the rain in front of my house with music blasting out of my car.
~use another religiouse world view for a day.
~Go to Canada but as much beer as we can get drunk and say. Everything we feel.
~Tell our boyfriends we can't have sex until were married(don't think they are going to like that)
~Have a mud fight with 20 other friends
~Give a homeless person lunch.
~Go to a rich area. And pretend to have all the money we need. :P
~learn to skateboard (we need more girls doing that)

my name is Patrick Overstreet and i live in a small town in Kentucky and i found skateboarding at age 16. Yea i no is late in life but i try to skate all i can and i know very few tricks . I can motion ollie thats the only moving trick i can do. So i was wondering how can i get better. like i said i try to practice and nothing happends. is there any instructional videows or something to help me skatte better. People tend to make fun of me for skateboarding and that tends to make me wanna skate better and show them there is more to skateboarding than they know.

my brother already skates and she said she doesn't want another skater in the house. she's just scared, though, i think cuz my brother got in to the whole drug scene but im not that stupid.
she said she doesn't like the scene, and the friends that come with it.

I am learning how to skateboard and need to buy one for myself, just for transportation though, no tricks/etc.

Info: I live in a beach city, mostly downhill, a lot of cracks/bumps kind of thing. (a friend told me i should get gel wheels for it)

So what kind of board/brand should I get and how much would it cost?
